Mr. Ellis graduated from  Hampshire College with a concentration in philosophy and political theory. He received his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, where he was Editor of the Rutgers Law Review and President of the International Law Society. He practiced at a large firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before moving to Vermont and joining the firm in 1994.  He served as the Firm's managing partner from 2000-2006.

Mr. Ellis' practice includes intellectual property, contracts, commercial and employment law, workers' compensation defense, general civil litigation and insurance law and defense.  He is an active and experienced trial and appellate advocate and is frequently engaged to serve as an arbitrator, mediator or neutral evaluator. He also assists clients with negotiating and documenting business agreements and relationships, such as technology transfers and licenses, employment and consulting agreements, nondisclosure and non-compete agreements, and with protecting copyrights, trademarks,  trade secrets and other intellectual property.  He is a frequent speaker and has authored numerous publications on employment law, advocacy, and legal ethics. He currently serves as chair of the Vermont Bar Association Employment Law Section and he is the former Chair of the VBA's Bench/Bar Committee.  He is is married with three children.
